Since everyone is confessing to drops…
So far two on the 250.
Once, on the state motorcycle exam parking lot range after-hours (shssshhhh) during the u-turn in the box. I’d been practicing way too long, and did a silly… braked on the front while the handlebars were at their max range. Held it on the peg and with my boot. No damage, and luckily to the right… where it already had a bit of well-concealed drop damage from the previous owner.
Second time, in a parking lot again, the other day. I ponder, “I wonder what’d happen if I leaned forward during heavy front braking/mini stoppie?” Well, I found out the answer, it’s me losing my balance dropping the bike. Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t high-side. Held it on the peg, nothing harmed, right side again. The Ninjette was a real dick to me for a few blocks, after I got it started, randomly acting like it’s gonna stall while on the road. I could tell it was mad at me. I’d been practicing for a while, to the point of brake-fade.
I guess the point of this all is, don’t try to cram too much into a parking lot session. After a while, go ride and have fun.

That baby Ninja is pretty light, but when it starts to drop, it gets exponentially heavier by the nano-second. You guys probably know what I mean.

Once when a couple of rotten kids were throwing rocks at oncoming cars and got me and I lost control as a result, and another time was a 25mph highside when my rear brake locked up going around a very very very slight bend. I have had the “misfortune” of crash testing both of my jackets as a result.

You know what you’re not supposed to do in that situation? Yep, I did it. Freaked out about the turn, and grabbed the front brake. I was able to get my leg out so was able to hop away from the bike w/o falling, but down she went. Fortunately, nobody saw it…
Busted the front turn signal, which gave me the impetus to replace both of them (they were aftermarket) with OEM ones, which made me happy.

September 1, 2009 at 2:38 am #22118WeaponZeroParticipantThe only things I’ve ever had to replace on my SV due to a crash were a mirror and a shift lever. Total for both would have been about $140 had i gone to the dealer, but ebay was my friend. By the way, good luck with your reg/rec swap
