Glad to see new riders for the rally 8-) I suggest you have new rollers and belt for the ruck for top speed, and put in heavy clutch springs(blue). They are cheap and easy to install and what a difference you will feel going down hill so much faster and carry that speed into next hills really helps.

Thanks for the tips, any suggestions on what to buy, i.e.. brand name, where to order, etc.

Check out scootertuning.ca for a start. And any scooter/Motorcycle shop should have a catalog for importations thibault(scooter Catalog) another great place to start. Presuming you're in Canada.

Yes this is the catalog for scooter after market in Canada. I would also suggest Dr Pully roller weights. They are a different design, more like a comma(,) than a round roller weight (o), they work much better! it is all I use now for both my scooters.

Wow I don't know how I never heard about ScooterTuning.ca before.

In the checkout it looks like the products are coming from the USA because there are shipping options like USPS. Does anyone know if that's true and if Canadians get hit with duty/tax on orders from ST?

Scootertuning.ca is a company from a town just north of Quebec City they also ship to the US as well. Used them several times everything I ordered was at my work within a week or less.

Any one beside Chris and his wife going to the rally this year?

WOW he is coming again! I hope he tunes up his scooter this time? Any one going in this should have fresh belt and roller weights. It is a long day riding flat out ;)

I'm considering riding the Mad Bastard this year. Weighing the options of riding my current bike ('87 Honda Elite 250) or buying/borrowing a small bore machine. I could easily get an Elite 80 from a friend-- do a round of maintenance and a couple mods to get it ready.

Any input from those of you who have run this event? I like the idea of a small bike in the whole spirit of the event.

Yup he's coming back for more. Last time he wasn't really prepared this round he is.
Ultra Sonic unless you're used to riding a small cc scooter or going at it by yourself stick with the 80-150cc size for a first go, as they still give a good challenge but with better speed. 200cc and up is too easy.
But if you really what to do it on a 50 find a mate and go together on the smaller scooters 2 people work better and its more fun then riding by yourself for 18-24Hrs. Trust me on that last part I've finished it twice by myself on a 50 after leaving with a team mate only to have them(wife actually) crap out less then half way in.

Thanks, tiny.

A buddy and I had talked about going together on identically prepped CH80s that we have available to us. We planned to ride together, share spares and tools, and figure out some kind of team theme. Not sure if it will happen this year, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.

You don't really need a theme or costumes just a couple of scoots a bud and enjoy the ride. But if ya want to wear a costume just head to a Party City or buy a cheap one online just have fun with it ya know thats the point not to take it too seriously.
