Noob need help

Post by Ferrisb33 » Wed Mar 09, 2016 2:27 pm

I am getting out of the motorcycle world leaving behind a '06 Harley Sportster 883. Just sick of riding with the bike crowd. I really want the the calmness and coolness of a scooter. I'm a hefty guy at 5'10" and about 215lbs.

I want to get a scooter. Narrowed it down to purchasing a brand new Yamaha SMax or Honda PCX150 or I have found a great deal on a Suzuki Burgman 650 with 5K miles. It's an 09 and they want 4399 for it...what should I persue for just every day running around town traveling. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

If its just for scooting around town(get it :D) stay with the SMax or the PCX. The 650 is more for highway and touring use and can be a little unwieldy in city traffic but the price seems Okay.
I've got a friend who has a 750cc scooter and he only uses it for out of town work/cursing with motorcycles and uses a 150 for in town.
The SMax's seat is more comfortable as the PCX has a ridge about half way up the seat that bugged me and my wife when we tried one out twice(I'm 5'11, she's 5'8) as neither of us were able to slide back on the seat to get comfortable on our long rides. The SMax has a 155cc engine as apposed to the PCX's 152cc engine but both are rather smooth(for a single cylinder) and powerful with good fuel consumption. But the PCX is lighter by a fair amount about 290Lbs Vs 355LBS
Me I would chose the SMax. But you need butt time in the seat to see which is more comfortable to you

Sounds like Tiny has some good information.
Me, I would drive them to see what has the most power, what is the most comfortable, what handles the best.
You have to be pretty secure in your manhood to be seen on a scooter, but they are so fun to ride.

Thank y'all for replying. I'm leaning towards the SMax myself. Not wanting a scooter for long travels. Plus the Burgman being an 09 makes me a little leery. You all rock!

I wouldn't rule out the pcx quite yet though, it is a Honda after all. And concerning the hump issue, the newer models, '15-'16 specifically, have a whole new redesigned seat to get rid of that hump. I've been doing lots of research on both recently too as I'm getting ready to jump in the market for a scooter, but I agree with the experts here:check them both out and see which fits you best. Good luck!
I might be crazy, but I'm not stupid.

I'd buy the PCX. I like the looks better than the SMAX and it's cheaper. Both are nice machines though.

I let my 1200 go about a year back. I have a 150 Tank handsome boy type. It's a little small framewise for me as I'm about the same as you in wt/ht . I keep my feet on outer edge of the floorboard and am still looking for foot pegs and shifter,LOL. I think it takes time readjust to a scooter config. But look for one that you can strech out that your knees aren't under your chin. I would recommend you opt for a minimum of 13 inch wheels. Better stability at cruising speed and braking IMO. Good luck.
