AE50 Hard to Start?

Post by cancunia » Mon Dec 18, 2017 4:19 am

Thought that I'd share a tip I picked up on Moped Army. If your AE50 won't start after sitting for a week or more and just spins on the starter, try blowing gently into the carb vent tube! I'm not exactly sure how this works, but it does the trick on my '97 AE50. I think it must raise the pressure in the float chamber just enough to put some extra fuel through the carb jets.
For some reason the vent tube on my AE50 is quite long and ends up in the frame tube just above the oil tank. Normally the vent is a simple elbow tube on the side of the carb. There's no real danger of blowing too much as the air you blow in goes out of the overflow.
