I just bought this bike. It will idle great, but runs erratically off-idle, at 1/2 to full throttle. I took apart the bike (cripes that was hard!) and got to the carb, and took it apart- clean as a whistle, go figure. Fuel filter is a bit dirty. took off the gas line and pumped some gas from the bike's tank into a clear glass - the gas looked relatively clean. Trouble is, the fuel pump delivered about ... 4 oz over 60 seconds of cranking, with a fresh charged battery. This doesn't seem that great. it's supposed to deliver (I forgot) like between 16 and 32 oz/minute.

First - would 4oz / minute be that bad? Surely the bike doesn't ingest more gas than that?

Second - the pump is a 4-wire job, and I don't want to pay $150 for a new one. Can I simply wire a 2-wire pump (cheapo) to the ignition-on switch, and call it good? Any reason to not have it sit there pressurizing the gas line? It's a carb-based unit, not EFI. Anybody ever do this?

Third - why 4 wires? I looked at the wiring diagram, but didn't understand it. Does this thing run off some kind of weird stepper motor trigger thingie?
