I’m a 38 year old teacher/mom from surprise AZ. I just got my new (brand new!) first bike. It’s a Suzuki s50. They opened a Ride Now store in my town so I stopped in to have a look and bought it! I got it in May. I used it for transportation to and from work until school ended. It has been on one road trip to Laughlin for bike week. Then it got too hot here for me to ride. It has been in my garage for June and July. I joined this community hoping someone could help me figure out why my brand new bike with less than 1000mi on it won’t start. Did I let it sit too long? Obviously I know nothing about bikes if 2 months is too long to go without turning it on. I plan to learn, though, I’m a DIY kind of girl.
Please help. (BTW, the battery IS charged)

It basically allows fuel to flow into a carbeurator in a bike that’s been stored. Other than that, I can’t help. Sorry!

Batteries become drained quickly here due to the heat. It was 107 today, and has been about that for a few weeks. I will know tomorrow.
July 25, 2008 at 11:25 am #9272MattParticipantTry charging the battery. I’m continually amazed at issues my Dad’s bike has that can’t possibly seem related to the battery, but a quick charge and the bike is good as new again…
Failing that, take it to an independant motorcycle mechanic! They’ll be abel to tell you. Frankly, there is no good reason for a barely broken in motorcycle to quit like that.

July 31, 2008 at 7:09 am #9651123missjParticipantThanks. I am loving the bike. The kids at school think its cool. It took the staff about 2 weeks to figure out whose bike was in the lot. I come early and leave late.
July 31, 2008 at 7:12 am #9652123missjParticipantAfter the battery was FULLY charged it worked fine. Just some new bike paranoia. Thanks, I got a trickle charger from Wal Mart for like under 20 dollars, I’m sure the shop would have charged it for me for free but the time to get it there and all didn’t seem worth it IF it was the battery. Thanks again.
