Honda Elite 80/150 ignition replacement

Post by rbrett43 » Sun Sep 12, 2010 9:22 am

Hi,
I have a 1986 honda elite 80 that i have lost the keys. Can i replace it with an ignition key from a 1986 honda elite 150? I can get the ignition key for the honda on ebay. i think it would be an easier route than taking to a locksmith? any help would be great.

This is why you should always write your key number down, on the title is always a good place, so you can replace the key. If nothing else the code for the key is on the ignition switch itself. You will have to remove it to find the number, but it is there. I always have a spare key in my key box for all my toys. You can go the lock smith route but it will be more expensive than a key from Honda. My last key was $7.50 USD from my Honda dealer and he made it as I stood there. The flea-bay deal will still require you to pull the ignition switch so why not just get the key from your dealer?

Having the ignition code will not help with a honda dealership. That was my first stop, i can get the key but they will not cut it. There suggestion was to pull the ignition, they do not keep records for a key for an 86 ignition code? Hey and thanks for telling me the obvious about the key-much appreciated that i should have made a key for it.

Then that dealer is a piss poor dealer and I would speak to management about their piss poor customer service. They don't need records, the code is on the original key(s) and the switch and are what they use to cut the key. Like the key I have in front of me is a D13 and that code will also be on the switch. Then the guy looks at his little code book and makes the directed. I did it a month or so ago.

my key code is B12, thanks for the information I had no idea.
I have two keys for my scooter, and two for the rear compartment.

my honda dealer here stopped punching keys a few years ago stating could no longer get the blanks(which is bullshit) but what can you do?i know a friend who got one for a old mascot form his honda dealer a year ago an hour from me, so they do exist.
presently enjoy riding a Ruckus and a Super 9. Tinkering with a Riva 180 and a couple of old Puch SV's. In the off season I enjoy a 1999 Polaris Indy 600 XLT Touring and a 2014 Artic Cat Prowler side by side

My dealer has a small plastic draw of key blanks along with a bunch of other small often needed parts and will punch you up a key without batting an eye.

I have to use a local locksmith for my last couple of keys. Cost was $50 each time if I brought the ignition in. Even my 2001 GSXR750 the dealer wouldn't cut the keys.

I have 2 2000 Elite 80 Hondas. I was thinking of parting one out as it looks to have a bent rear axle and ownership issues.

Number 17 rides funky but 18 rides straight.
