2012 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE R50
Milage: 5000 - 10,000 Miles
Likes: Power, speed, durable plastics, good in all conditions
Dislikes: Goes through brake pads and tires quickly.

Review: Easily one of the best (if not the best) 50cc scooter available to the American scooterist. The Zuma hasn't been worth owning since the 2005 model. Since 2005 the Zuma has been slowly neutered until all you are left with is the bloated effeminate eunuch you get in the modern 4 stroke "Zuma". How Yamaha can still call that under powered over complicated monstrosity a "Zuma" is beyond me.

The Rough House is a peppy all terrain all weather trusty mode of cheap transportation with a "can do" attitude. Plus it’s a lot of fun. The Aprilia 50cc 2 strokes are excellent scooters too but much more expensive. If you want the best performance/reliability vs. price its gotta be the Rough House.”

Milage: 5000 - 10,000 Miles
Likes: Performance, speed, handling, tire sizing, gas mileage
Dislikes: Hard to mod, not very many accessories

Review: I’ve had my Roughhouse for a little under a year now. It’s a fantastic machine. I’ve ridden a lot of other 50cc scooters, and this one trumps them all. It’s very quick stock (de-restricted) and with a Leo Vince TT exhaust, some Dr. Pulley sliders, and some carb and airbox adjustments this thing really flies! I can keep up with my friends 125 cc. I use it everyday for commuting to work and back, and usually just for fun. It gets 86-90 mpg, depending on what I'm doing. All in all I love this scooter. I wouldn't get any other one if you're looking for a 50cc.”

Likes: Love it
Dislikes: Ever since my dealer took the restrictions out it goes through a lot of spark plugs and I can’t get it to run

Review: The bike is great. It has lots of power and runs good but since my dealer took the restrictions out the bike will run great then out of no where it dies and you can’t get it to start again.”

Review: I will never buy a moped like this again. It goes through way too many plugs and it lost spark. It doesn’t run half the time. It’s junk.”

Milage: 0 - 1000 Miles
Likes: Power/Performance, Utility, Storage, Fuel Economy, Front Disc Brake, Build Quality, Price
Dislikes: Mirrors could be better, Suspension could be beefed up

Review: My 2015 Genuine Roughhouse R50 performs beyond my original expectations. It does have brisk acceleration (for a 49cc) and does hit speeds in excess of 40 MPH (considering I weigh in the 260lb. range). The workmanship and build quality are quite good considering the $2k price tag. I estimate I'm getting in the 80MPG range and have just over 500 miles on it at this point in time. The storage is more than adequate (bin, under seat, rear rack) and the floor board space is great. The fatter tires work well for occasional gravel roads plus they just make the scooter look good. Stopping power is more than adequate and having the disc brake up front is a big plus.

Overall I think it's one of the best 49cc scooters on the market in the U.S. and I would definitely buy another one. For those concerned about 2-stroke emissions it's CARB and EPA compliant (a big improvement from the vintage 2-strokes). Genuine now offers a USB port standard in place of the older cigarette lighter type power port so you can recharge 5V electrical devices. It continues to be conveniently located just above the front storage bin. I would definitely buy this scooter again considering I looked at the other popular brands (4-strokes) and what they had to offer and for how much coin. I can live with the stock suspension and mirrors but there is room for improvement.

The machine has performed flawlessly for me (no fouled spark plug or mis-firing, nothing has broken or failed to work). At 200 miles the gear oil was drained and replaced. . .that's it (except for adding gas or 2-stroke oil). I have other motorcycles and have ridden for over 40 years and find myself using the R50 the most, particularly around town. Did I forget to mention it has a high "Grin" factor?”

2015 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE R50
Milage: 1000 - 5000 Miles
Likes: Big tires, speed, roadside assistance
Dislikes: No trunk, crank-fuel input in the way, frequently refuses to start

Review: I have had my Roughhouse less than 3 months. It has been in the shop 4 times, each time same problem. It cranks over but will not start. The first time I didn’t get my roadside assistance card in the mail yet so I had to get it there myself. The second time they told me bad gas. Ran perfect to and from work the same day. Warranty does not cover bad gas. ($20.00) fee. Half mile down the road I get a ticket for it smoking. Take it back. They said its supposed to smoke. I don’t see other scooters smoke they said mine is special. Third time, again, won’t start. Air in the fuel line. 3 days later won’t start. Can’t use roadside assist more than once a week. 4 days later they tell me bad battery. When it left my house it had plenty of cranking power just won’t start. I need to buy a battery. NOT. Had 2 days now let’s see.”

2015 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE R50
Milage: 0 - 1000 Miles
Likes: Fun to ride
Dislikes: Starts in the morning.... after that its anybody's guess.

Review: I’ve only had this scooter a year. It ran great for 3 months - then battery got weak. I thought the battery was dying this spring, even though it’s plugged into a Battery Tender almost every night. I bought a new battery and by end of that day it refused to start. It tries to turn over, battery has juice- but it will not start (won’t kick start either). The shop has checked idle, and gas cap. Not sure what else they checked when they had it for a week - but it stranded me at work today even though it started three other times this morning.”

2015 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE R50
Milage: 1000 - 5000 Miles
Likes: Fun to ride, good acceleration
Dislikes: Suspension (might replace the rear shock with a piggyback one)

Review: I really like my Roughhouse. I bought it second hand. Stock it already moves well for a 50cc bike.
I plan to replace some of the stock parts to get a little better performance. I like to tinker and make it my own, that said this scooter really doesn't need much. I am considering getting the R50 Sport next year as it maybe a better for what I want to do. My only complaint is why didn't I buy this scooter sooner.”

2016 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE 50
Milage: 0 - 1000 Miles
Likes: Looks, power
Dislikes: Doesn’t start 20% of the time

Review: This scooter has a starter problem, in my opinion. The dealer first told me it was due to the way people turn it off with the switch rather than the key. That isn't true. I've always used the key. Then, the dealer told me it was due to the spark plugs needing to be changed. Not true. I had them changed. Still, won't start at least one morning per week. It is super sensitive to temperature and usage. If it is constantly 80 degrees and not humid, then it will start as long as you ride it every day. Change any of those conditions and it will not start. Kick all you want. I hugely regret buying this scooter, especially to commute.”

2016 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE SPORT
Milage: 0 - 1000 Miles
Likes: Pep. Maneuverability. Fun ride, even for two.
Dislikes: Unreliable. Cannot trust whether or not it will start! Smokes a lot. Sounds like a lawnmower.

Review: Bought from a dealer who had closed his doors. Had 125 miles on it. Deals well with NYC streets, crazy drivers, and potholes. BUT --

It is totally unreliable. Cannot trust whether or not it will start, even using the kick. One minute it's fine and then when you return an hour or two later it won't start, you're stuck in the street at midnight waiting for roadside assistance. A battery boost usually does the trick but the battery is good. It also smokes a lot, which pedestrians hate. Sounds like a lawnmower but that's nothing compared to the issue of not starting.

During the past week, the weather has been warm and consistent, so I feel lucky it's been starting. But I fear trouble ahead during the upcoming week, which promises variable weather. Not sure what's wrong with the thing but the problems sound exactly like others noted above, even though it's a 2016. Guess some are simply lemons. Too bad. Love the thing.”

Dislikes: Unreliable

Review: The darned thing doesn't start without warning. One minute it's fine. An hour later, it won't start. I've had mine on a tender. Bought a new battery. Had it tuned up TWICE. Still the same problem. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Wished I never bought it. I contacted Genuine and never got a response.”

2017 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE SPORT
Milage: 1000 - 5000 Miles
Likes: Colors, looks, front compartment, phone charger, tires, speed, reliability, size
Dislikes: Nothing really pretty much hits all the areas you cloud ask for. Maybe a little better suspension and maybe bigger mirrors. Bigger gas tank actually would be very nice

Review: Had 2016 off road Roughhouse sold it and got a 2017 Roughhouse Sport 50. I’ve never had problems with either of them and I crashed the sport at least 3 times pretty bad and still works fine - just a few minor cosmetic issues from crashes.

A bigger gas tank would be a lot better. It’s a lot more fun to drive these things instead of a car even if it goes way slower. It just gives that biker feeling of freedom and unlike cars which may feel like a hassle or a drag to drive sometimes, this scooter is fun all the time especially at night. I don’t know why but it’s just nice.

To all the people having problems with it smoking and not starting and any thing else i guarantee you the problem does not come from Genuine but the shady sketchy garbage dealers you got it from so you keep bringing it into their shop so they make more money. Even if some dealers seem legit and wouldn’t do that, trust me some will do it and sell it with a smile and laugh with their co-workers in the back as you walk out their shop with a scooter they defected themselves for extra cash. Research the dealer and look for reviews. My scooters have never smoked no scooter is supposed to do that. I feel bad these lame dealers are ruining the fun easy experience of owning and riding a scoot do your research!!!!

I had a cheaper used Hyosung 50 cc before the Roughhouse and they are a step or two below Genuine quality. It was much older and it never smoked and was actually very reliable for being a cheaper brand and always started if battery was good. If it wasn’t then kick start would always come through and when my battery was giving me problems on my Genuine’s kick start never failed me once unless it sat for a while then you had to kick a lot and hard. The only problem I’ve had with the battery on my second Genuine was that the battery plugs were a little loose from crashing it a few times and died and needing charging since it sat for a bit. The kick start always worked since you don’t need the battery for kick start

I’m glad I invested in this scooter before I went broke. It’s basically my car for the moment and it can even hold up very well in the rain. If I had the money I would buy the regular Roughhouse just to go off-road again but I’m planning to buy off road tires and just switch them when i want to go off-road. I hope I could help you bring that scoot you been eying for a while home trust me you wont be disappointed. They save tons of money on ridiculous gas prices and are fun to ride and get lost into the late night. If you think you would want to do trail riding deff get the o.g (non-sport) version. It’s still very nice on regular street as well but added bonus of off-road tires.

Review: It was great in the beginning. Fast and a fairly smooth ride with good gas mileage. Now it is bogging down horrible under any strain and will only do about 25-30 miles at 3/4 even slower up a small hill. Before it was doing 40 - 45 mph and 30 up a hill.”

2018 GENUINE ROUGHHOUSE 50cc SPORT
Milage: 0 - 1000 Miles
Likes: Style, warranty, reliable
Dislikes: None so far

Review: I've had my scooter now for about 6 weeks. It just rolled over to 400 miles with zero issues so far. I mainly ride county roads in the country and it has been great.

I looked and compared scooters for a few months and the Roughhouse kept floating to the top. The quality of this scooter is far superior to the cheap Chinese made scooter and in my personal opinion is right in line with the Honda and Yamaha scooters. It's only about $500 less than the Yamaha and Honda, but the 2 year unlimited mileage definitely beat out the 6 month warranty Y and H offered.
