No engine temp gauge

Review: Great bike. First 500 miles done and no problems. Windshield is awesome and the bike is very stable at top speed (indicated 83mph). I'm 5'9" 230lbs. I've checked fuel economy 3 times and achieved 83mpg each time. I have moved to riding this bike full time and the flat floor allows for light shopping if you actually fill the trunk. I did look at other bikes for about a year, but once I saw the flat floor and rear disc I was sold.

Downsides I have noticed include gas gauge reads dead empty with a half gallon remaining so I never get to that 150mile mark I would expect from a tank. Second, if the handle bars where maybe just a half inch higher parking lot navigating would be completely flawless but I notice this less and less as I try different seating and foot positions. Wishlist includes USB charging port up front or in trunk, coolant temperature gauge under seat storage bag windshield extender and GPS mount.”

Review: I have been riding scooters since 2004 and have owned scooters ranging from the Yamaha Zuma 50, Vino 125, Zuma 125, Riva 200, and Majesty 400. From the beginning I have looked for "THE" scooter without any luck until now. The SMax is everything I have ever wanted in a scooter. The current mileage on my scooter is 350 miles so it is not close to being broken in. However, I checked gas mileage on the second tankful and was amazed at 95.4 mpg. You must realize that my top speed during break-in is 40-45 mph (mostly 35 mph). For those concerned about such things, Motorcycle USA tested the SMax with a GPS and found max speed at 77 mph.

My main concern when I first saw the SMax was the stepped seat arrangement because I had heard that they were not too comfortable. In reality I have found it to be very comfortable. The handling is terrific. The engine response to throttle movement is awesome. Because I am accustomed to analogue speedos it took a while to get used to the digital speedo but now I actually like it better. Living in southern Illinois provides me with many two lane highways to ride on and now I can do it with the SMax. I give it a 10!!”

Hard seat, design of seat, gas tank size

Review: First off I do a lot of highway riding around 60 mph (indicated, 7000 rpm). It handles the highway very well . Seems like I'm always filling the gas tank because I don't drive it more than 130 miles between fill ups, so I wish it had a little larger tank so I could drive 200 miles between fill ups. At 130 miles the gas gauge is well into the red. I do get around 80 miles per gallon after adjusting for the speedometer error of between five and 10%.

If the speedometer says I'm doing 60 miles an hour I'm really doing around 55 per my gps. I am told by the dealer this is normal and cannot be corrected. I also wish I could go longer than the recommended 1800 miles between oil changes . If I had the dealer doing the oil changes at $49 an oil change (engine only) this could add up very quickly. Don't get me wrong I really do enjoy the scooter.

I live in a rural area where the highway and road speeds dictate that I drive between 6500 to 7500 RPMs. I have been trying to finding out what the best cruise rpm for this scooter should be. My best guess is 2000 - 2500 rpm under the max 9500 rpm.”

Seat, light roller weights (take off), exhaust, cdi, handle bars, footrest traction.

Review: ”Its rev limiter-exhaust-factory EFI mapping sucks. At 600kms I only get 110km/hr at 8500 rpm, nothing more. From takeoff, it's at 6000rpm or nothing (slow). At 40kmh to 80kmh it’s fast, and to 110kmh its fast.

The SMAX is perfect for aftermarket race-parts; clutch, rollers, rpm springs. For city commute, the rollers in it (10-11 grm) are dangerously slow. Needs a heavier roller-rpm spring set up to survive the traffic-intersection.

The seat is soft, but no room to lean back. The floorboard is all plastic, could use steel traction grips. I bought it new a week ago. Stayed under 4500rpm 1st-2nd day, got to 6500rpm then to 80-95kmh. 4hrs to empty a tank. The SMax is tuned for 40kmh+ riding. The engine is the best on the market. Smax is speed, performance, and with attention to the roller weights, torque springs.

Yamaha has put together a perfect Sportster: disc brakes, 4 valve-EFI. Soon it's a new airbox, exhaust, handlebars, get Yamaha to tune the EFI, get the rpm up to 2500-750 and I'll be leaning into those unexpected power wheelies. P.S YAMAHA ISN'T POSING. THERE IS NO OTHER 155CC ON THE MARKET THAT CAN COME CLOSE. THE SMAX IS ALL THAT.

Someone was smoking crack when they designed the seat.... King and queen seats should be banned...what is this 1970?”

SEAT, hump is right at my tail bone, painful, had to modify the plastic seat pan, very comfortable after modification, rear fender

Review:Well, I found my scooter on Craigslist with 400 miles...Cheap.....I mean bargain Cheap, in brand new condition!!

Rides like everyone describes: not real quick off the line but it is adequate, top end is great 80 mph for a 150 class scooter and I weigh 220lbs. WOW, hard to believe, but it’s true.

Run it to the store, gallon of milk, 1/2 orange juice, other odds and ends...all under the seat. Flat floor holds 32 count packaged water bottles on end between my legs.

This scooter thing is great. It brings a Smile to my face every time I hit the throttle. Thanks to "YAMAHA" for the design. Honda makes great stuff but I think Yamaha whipped them on this one.“

Review:No buyers remorse. Starts and runs great. Brakes are very good. Good value. Acceleration a bit weak but top speed is better than the PCX150. Light enough for urban use, stable enough for the highway. Suspension is a bit harsh.”

Seat sucks! I’ve been riding for 55 years…worst seat I have EVER encountered.

Review:Overall, a nice bike IF your legs are shorter. With the seat design, if you're over 5'10", you'll probably be very uncomfortable, because you cannot "slide back" in the saddle. Instrumentation is excellent!”

Hey Yamaha - the 1970's called - they want their freakin' pumpkin turn signals back!!!, no power outlet, no LED headlights, no optional ABS

Review:As a former owner of a 2015 PCX 150 I'm a big fan of the 150cc class of scooter. I traded in my PCX for a VFR800 but after a little over 2 years on the VFR I decided to go back to a scooter as it better suits my lifestyle. I considered the revised 2019 PCX 150 but decided to try something a little different and bought my first Yamaha, a 2018 SMAX.

So far I'm extremely impressed with the quality and fit/finish of this scooter as well as its acceleration, top speed, and braking performance. This thing rules over suburbia with its ability to filter through traffic at stop lights and then quickly accelerate away from traffic up to 70mph with ease. I saw a top speed (indicated) of 82 mph on my highway test (see link below to vid) where it cruised easily at over 70 mph and felt very stable and composed while doing so.

In addition, the brakes are wonderful - with a 267mm disc up front and 245mm disc in back, they have excellent feel and are very confidence inspiring. The brakes are actually the same size as the faster and heavier 300cc class XMAX, so they are arguably over-engineered for the smaller SMAX which is great. They're much bigger than the brakes on the PCX 150 and even bigger than the 300cc Honda Forza, well done Yamaha! Link to
my video review and highway test.”

Seat, seat and seat

Review: Went for the 155cc hoping it would perform well on the highway while knowing it would be great in town. Other than the seat (looking at that Custom Corbin), this scooter is amazing so far. Its low end is just good enough but the highway performance with or without hills is a superstar. Crushing 90kph/56mph uphill with a bit more spare in the throttle. Then up to 115kph/72mph without any vibrations and still felling comfortable. You’re getting a lot of bang for the buck here. So far so great! The front and rear disc brakes are fantastic and I find myself throwing a knee out in the turns at speed. Good times.

Just buy one knowing the seat will need to be swapped out if your over 5.9". Also if your looking at the 125cc, just take the jump up to the 155cc. I'm calling it now! from someone who has had a 1998 Kawasaki ninja (best seat ever), a 1984 Honda CBR 750 & a 2017 Vespa 300 (hated this bike but will miss the ABS, traction control and the shocks). This 2019 Yamaha S Max 155cc is a contender for the best all around motorized bike ever under the $6000can/$4500 USD mark!

Enjoy the ride.
