well i am still interested in the Lambretta Seretta 1970. i got an return email from vendor, and he stated it is all there requires to be re wired and engine need s new gaskets and seas and carburetor is clogged up. pics i have seen are not too bad looking. i know nothing about these other than it is a 2 stroke. he also said it is a Spanish model?
is this a good deal for around 900-1000$
are they hard to work on?
is this model worth restoring?

I've found some info at this link:
http://www.scooterlounge.com/Lambretta/ ... veta.shtml

Basically the story is that in the late 60's Lambretta stopped producing the Li150 Special and the SX200 because they released their new GP line of scooters. Lambretta sold the presses and rights for these models to the Spanish company Serveta who continued to make these two scooters under licence until about 1980.

The Serveta produced Li 150 is mostly the same as the Innocenti produced Li 150 but there are some differences. The body panels are virtually the same, although the rear cowls do attach slightly differently. The Serveta models usually had different (ie. larger) blinkers and taillight to meet new USA regulations. The controls were also black plastic instead of metal. The motor is exactly the same except for the air filter and the magneto.

According to ScooterLounge.com, the quality of the Serveta's is decent but perhaps not quite as good as an Innocenti produced scooter. The main problem areas are the carburators, engine cases and electrical.

The value of these scooters is listed at:
# Rough but restorable = $700-1200
# Drivable, but not show = $1500-2500
# Restored or Excellent Original Condition = $2500-3500 (up to $4000 for the Jet 200)

My thoughts on this scooter are that $900-$1000 seems like a good buy, but this is going to be a big job and you need to be sure you are up for all this work. Getting the electrical wiring sorted out is probably going to be a headache. I'm not sure, but the wiring harness might be totally different than the regular Li150 so you might have a hard time getting this sorted out. If you want something to work away on then this will be perfect, but if you are expecting to fix it up quickly and cheaply then you might be in for a surprise. I think parts are generally hard to find and kinda expensive. Just odds and ends that you may need (ie. new brake cables? tires? brake pads?) can easily add up to hundreds of dollars. I thought I was going to get my '83 Beluga fixed up for dirt cheap, but it ending up costing about $600 on top of what I paid to get it on the road and that scoot was mostly intact to start with. You always run into some surprises (like a clogged exhaust) that set you back.

If you buy this, what are you going to do with the Riva 180? Are you still going to work on that as well?

well the riva is there too ,get at it soon too, but, yeah the lambtretta would be a engine rebuilt and wiring working, and see from there if it is worth tearing apart and powder coat it a original color.
i think my shop would like the ambiance of a scooter like that. cleaned up real good a few weeks ago you can park a car in there right now :) ready too fill it up again.
hey does it have a clutch? and gears?

That's awesome you got the shop cleaned up.

The Lambretta would have a clutch and gears. I believe it would be a 3 speed and then the rear brake would be a pedal on the floorboard like the Elite 150.

well decided not to by this one :( too much work in unfamiliar territory and at least a 1000$ or more in stuff to finish and how longit could take? and it is not it's original color. i am leaning towards a vespa type scooter but i want and need reliability! so i look on and dream 8-)

and my wife has reminded me that the shop leaks bad! and needs a roof! $$$$ so a new scooter would just get wet  and vehicles have and still need repairing. so much for a new toy yet, reality sucks!

Maybe once you get the roof fixed and the Riva purring you can buy a Vespa PX150. They sold there here in the late 70's and then they released another batch back in 2007. So you can actually buy a vintage 2-stroke Vespa that is reliable and fairly new, yet you still get the style, shifting and clutch of a vintage Vespa. Another bonus is that these are heavily restricted in stock form (ie. restrictive exhaust) so you can throw on a few parts (pipe, variator etc) and get a huge boost. The downside is that these are kinda expensive. Probably $3g for a gently used one.

I like the styling of the 500cc MP3 a lot more than the 250cc and 400cc versions...

The 500cc version looks like a mash-up of a spider and a transformer. Love it!

Or you can just forget this vintage Vespa stuff and buy a Genuine Stella. Two stroke, hand shift and India build quality with all the old Vespa looks.
