The Majesty is a good performing maxi-scoot with a highway capable top speed of 85mph. First introduced for the 2005 model year, the Majesty continues to be sold as of 2009. However, Yamaha also added the new 495cc TMAX for 2009 that in may ways seems to be the successor to the Majesty. It will be interesting to see how well the Majesty sells alongside the TMAX. The $2000 savings might be enough to keep the Majesty scootin out of showrooms.
In the engine compartment, the Majesty features a fuel injected 395cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke, 4-valve, DOHC single cylinder engine. This engine is good for an awesome 105mph and manages a respectable 50-60mpg. That’s impressive considering many 250cc scoots achieve similar milage out of their less powerful engines. Personally, I think 400-500cc is a great size for a maxi-scooter engine because you’re getting plenty of power for highway travel, while still retaining great fuel milage. For comparison, Honda’s Silverwing only attains 35-40mpg, which is a pretty significant difference on long trips. Given the 100mph+ top speed of the Majesty (and Piaggio’s X9), it doesn’t really make sense to shell out thousands more for a 600cc scooter unless you are particularly power hungry.
The Majesty can swallow up to 16 gallons of stuff in its underseat storage area. That’s one more gallon that Honda’s Silverwing holds. You can fit your helmet,

If you’re in the market for a highway capable maxi-scoot this one makes a lot of sense. It can cruise at highway speeds unlike the 250cc maxi-scoots and it’s got better milage that the bigger 600 and 650cc scoots from Honda and Suzuki. The most direct competitors are Kymco’s Xciting 500, Suzuki’s Burgman 400, the 500cc TMAX and Piaggio’s 460cc X9. All of these scooters are worth looking into.
Pros:
* Easily copes with highway speeds
* 50-60mpg
* Underseat storage
* Twin halogen headlights
Cons:
* Bland styling compared to the TMAX
