APRILIA SCOOTERS
What I love about Aprilia is that they are one of very few companies who understand that scooters are about more than just economical transportation. It seems that far too many companies see scooters as simply a stepping stone to a motorcycle. Like Vespa, Aprilia is a company that caters to enthusiasts and thus offers top notch designs and awesome technology right down to their 50cc models. Check out the SR50 page for info on all the technological firsts that scooter has accomplished.
Around the turn of the millenium, Aprilia was in dire financial condition and Piaggio (parent company of Vespa) ended up purchasing them. Thankfully, Piaggio is a company that also understands that market for high end scooters and thus Aprilia scooters have remained technological and quality leaders.
I’m a little unsure when Aprilia began selling scooters in North America (email me please if you know: dandurston@hotmail.com) but it seems likely that these scooters arrived at about the same time as when Vespa re-entered the USA market (2001) and the Canadian market (2004). Since their introduction in North America, Aprilia has sold the SR50 sports scooter in both the Canadian and USA markets. They have also sold the Scarabeo 50 & 200 in the Canadian market, while Americans have been offered the Scarabeo 100, 200 and 500. Aprilia has also been selling the Sportcity One 50, Sportcity One 125 and Sportcity Cube 250 in only the USA market.
Use the menu to the right to dive into specific information on each of these models. The SR50 page is generally complete, while the other pages are just starting to take shape. I would appreciate hearing from you with any information you can provide, as well as with your own stories about these scooters which I would love to add. You can email me at dandurston@hotmail.com
