Aprilia’s Scarabeo line of scooters consists of 50cc (shown at right), 100cc, 200cc and 500cc models. In the USA, Aprilia sells the 100, 200 and 500 versions, while Canadians get only the 50cc and 200cc models. All of the Scarabeo scooters are ‘big wheeled’ scooters, with large 16” rims (except the 500cc version has a 14” rear rim). Large by scooter standards, these rims offer superior handling and performance over bumps compared to smaller wheeled scooters. Traditionally, scooters have used 8-12” rims. Big wheeled scooters like the Scarabeo are especially popular in Europe, where scooters are bought primarily for function. Honda’s big wheeled SH125cc scooter is actually the best selling scooter in all of Europe.
